National Women's History Month

Uncategorized Mar 30, 2021

The month of March is National Women’s History month. I’d like to talk a little bit about the history of one of my teachers, Rumiko Hayes.

She told me she started training in this martial art because she wanted to know why her future husband was so enthralled with it. She too became enamored with the art as she trained alongside her husband and the others at that time.

Rumiko is an amazing martial artist who has been featured in a number of magazines demonstrating her prowess with and without weapons. She has taught at every Ninja Festival and many other seminars for the last forty years.

Rumiko not only has and can teach deadly martial skills she also teaches an art of healing and rejuvenation for health called Ryu Tai. She describes Ryu Tai as a scientific system of gentle twists, stretches and pressure-point exercises to enhance, restore, and regenerate health and longevity.

I first met Rumiko about twenty years ago at a seminar. Years later at the 2009 Ninja Festival...

Vaccine timeline this week:

If you are getting the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine two weeks after your second shot you would be eligible to come back to the dojo. If you get the Johnson and Johnson vaccine five weeks after your shot you would be eligible to come back to the dojo.

Let us know your vaccine schedule. For those of you that are later in the vaccine schedule, we will be looking into combining indoor and outdoor training depending on the weather. So that everyone who chooses can take classes at the dojo when we resume indoor training.

We look forward to seeing you at the dojo...

Crazy Fun

Uncategorized Mar 27, 2021

Another sunny Saturday and another great day of training. For the first hour we worked on the Chi Kung posture embracing the tree and rooting energy. The goal was to be able to stay in this posture while being pushed from either side or the back.

All of us from the newest student to the senior students started working on this with varied results. We did not achieve success every time, but throughout the training we all were getting better and sometimes everything came together and the magic happened. It worked!!

The second hour we took the new skills we were working on and put them into practice in our martial art.
This is where it got crazy. We started experimenting with how we could take the attackers energy that was exerted and bounce it back into them.

Focussing on using the Formula we experimented. Our movements started to become more imperceptible with greater results. It was crazy fun to watch us toss each other around with the appearance of little to no movement. Not to...

Great Day

Uncategorized Mar 26, 2021

It’s going to be a great day!!

I say that every morning when I wake up. Every time I say it, I smile and do a full body stretch like I am diving into a pool. It is part of my ninja mind sciences practice. It sets the tone for the day to be a good one. I do this first thing before I check the weather, my messages, sit up, etc.

To me this practice is like putting on armor for the day against negative thoughts, words and actions both internally and externally. This doesn’t mean I don’t have bad things happen or I am always positive about myself and others but it is a way to prepare myself for dealing with whatever comes my way.

Learning the ninja mind sciences through Shinobi Science has been a life changing practice for me. It gave me the courage to make decisions that I knew I should but lacked the belief in myself to do so. It gave me the strength to find my voice and act to lead a healthier and safer life.

We look forward to training with you.

P.S. If you would...

Chi Kung In Ninja Lab

Uncategorized Mar 25, 2021

This week we started looking at Iron Shirt Chi Kung in Ninja Lab. We have studied the different breathing patterns and now have started exploring the different postures. The goal of the practice is to be able to connect the myofascia of the body to create an immovable structure that when force is applied it bounces back on itself.

This exists in the martial art we study but by exploring it in Iron Shirt Chi Kung we isolate the study to just the breathing and connecting the myofascia. It’s incredibly powerful and effective when we use it in our art.

I would like to go into further detail but I just don’t have the words. It’s weird and mind blowing in practice. It looks like magic but it is the power of focusing our mind/body in gravity and connecting all the myofascia to use the body as one powerful weapon.

If you want to know more you just have to watch the classes or research it yourself with a skilled practitioner.

We look forward to training with you.

Gone With The Wind

Uncategorized Mar 24, 2021

Yesterday was Tuesday so as some of you know if you have been following Shinobi Science I have a Togakure Ryu leadership class in Boston with Mark. Last night's class as always was fantastic. Mark was going through a Chuden level Koto Ryu kata.

Mark demonstrated how Koto Ryu uses the kata. He then demonstrated how Togakure Ryu would make use of this kata. He demonstrated it with different starting positions and grabs. He also demonstrated it using a hidden knife. He showed us how Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi had done the kata on him.

The results were brutally effective. Yet in each instance his attackers said they felt no threat or force from Mark and then found themselves on the ground. Mark described it as being hit by a sudden imperceptible gust of wind that takes your balance.

I look forward to using the Shinobi Science Formula to take apart, then put back together this kata and learn all the lessons within it. The formula gives me the path to discover the lessons within this...

Step By Step

Uncategorized Mar 22, 2021

Today Dennis and I registered to get the vaccine. We both have an appointment for tomorrow. Don’t know which vaccine but we will be getting one.

At eight this morning I logged on to my computer and started jumping through hoops to register. The system was not optimal, it had glitches that would get stalled in certain places. I tried calling for help, forty minutes later I was speaking with someone but their system was down so they couldn’t help.

All this while I kept trying to register. After another twenty minutes Eureka!! I was registered. A few minutes later I received an email with a link to schedule an appointment. There were still appointments for tomorrow so I quickly chose a location and time and it was accepted.

I want to say we were incredibly lucky to get through, get registered and finally schedule an appointment for tomorrow. It wasn’t luck, there were specific steps that needed to be followed, it was just being thorough and keeping at it until we got...

Spring Training

Uncategorized Mar 20, 2021

Today is the Vernal Equinox or as most of us would say the first day of Spring. Being a Saturday we met outside the dojo and trained in the beautiful weather that Spring provided.

Today we trained on a new drill because of a question one of the students asked on Thursday. I wrote about this in the post yesterday: A Perfect Question. Dennis calls the drill, inchworm. Some of us call it Zee Sea Slug!

In the drill we get balanced in gravity, then move our head slightly forward in the direction of the strike to change our shape and then rebalance. We continue this in small increments until we reach the end of the strike. We did this with a step through strike, a sword cut and rear hip throw.

All the incremental balance points along the way create the gravitational path of the strike, the cut and the throw. It is a fantastic drill and we all found our own specific way to smooth out our movement. As usual our Saturday outdoor training included laughter, movie references, jokes and this...
